Met Mike Anderson strolling
the dock and discovered his involvement in the last haul-out, hull
cleaning and transom replacement. Mike is an avid Crashboat-AVR
enthusiast and has been involved in the past restoration efforts of
the 83527. He has been active with Crashboats since he was a Sea
Scout at 11 and owned and operated several in the years past.
He volunteered to supervise
the yard work with a helper and interface with Steve at Bay Ship for
decisions about the props and shaft, as well as communicate the
progress with me. We are greatly appreciative of his efforts and
willingness to share his knowledge of the hull, GM/DD 671 engines
and Twin Disc "crash box" transmissions.

6/24/04 - Thursday - Installation
continues on shafts and couplers. Agreed that at 1pm, Friday launch goal would
be pursued. Called Greg Brazil for an idea on small crew for Friday launch. He
contacted Paul H. the local Sea Scout Commander. Paul thought he might be able
to get an adult and 3 scouts to help. But, time would be close as they all had
to leave on Friday for LA to go work on a new boat they had acquired. Scheduled
to fly back in evening. Cancelled reservation as boat is not in the water. I
worked most of the day on freeing up thru-hull valves. Replaced bad faucets
where necessary. Since Dan Foley could not be contacted again, I painted the
port side.

installed shaft packing in morning. I patched the high
bad board with ¼ plywood piece. Focused on activities that needed completed
before putting the boat in the water. (valves confirmed closed, pumps ready,
lines ready) Sugar Dock ready to provide 3 hands at their dock to receive us.
Richard Merz agreed to come with 2 or 3 hands. Scout leader called to “pass” on
helping with move. They were all heading for LA to work on a new boat for their
group. Dan from Seattle at Sugar Dock would come to help on board. Launched boat
about 3:15 in high winds and tied to Bay Ship guest dock. Scrambled to keep
bilge pumps managed as hull expanded in the water. Things calmed down about
